Pino PASCALI (1935 - 1968)

Pino Pascali is often associated with post-minimalism, specifically with the arte povera movement, with its emphasis on the natural and organic: his "fake sculptures" (abstract-shaped forms made of canvas) and "reconstructing nature" series are examplary of this. Using a variety of materials (steel wool scouring pads, rope, water etc) he plays with people's preconceptions of an object's utility and form.

Pascali's solo sculpture exhibition at the Venice Biennale in 1968, just before his death, was re-visited at the 2011 Venice Biennale with an exhibition held between the Pino Pascali Museum Foundation and Apulia Region.
