James COLEMAN (b. 1941)

James Coleman's films, installations, and videos utilise sound and video to create a shifting tableau and theatrical narrative. The intersection of literature, film, the fine arts, and theatre, results in complex and visually stimulating works such as horoscopus (2004-2005), in which several of the digital cameras are actually mounted on the participants bodies producing a fragmentary, elusive filmed reality.

Coleman lives and works in Dublin and Paris and studied at the National College of Art and Design, the University College of Art, Dublin, as well as the Ecole des Beaux-arts, Paris. He has participated in Documenta IX (1992), X (1997), XI (2002), and XII (2007) and represented Ireland at the 1973 Paris Biennale.
