Ian Hamilton Finlay
Evening Will Come, 1990. Glass poem (etched glass panel with steel surround) with Michael Harvey. 167cm x 60cm.
The largest free-standing glass poem produced by Finlay. The work comes with a letter from Sue Finlay (partner of Ian Hamilton Finlay) who acquired it as part of her settlement following the break-up of their relationship. Sue Finlay writes;
“It seemed appropriate to choose an early favourite poem in an early favourite medium but realised on a new scale and in perfect letter forms. It could also remind me of crazy days sailing in the Jiffy on our wee lochan; and of sewing hanky sails for Ian’s model boats after a day’s gardening! ” (Excerpt from letter by Sue Swan, formerly Finlay).
