Her ground-breaking and confrontational practice addressed issues relating to sexuality and femininity and sought to reclaim the image of the female body. Her work featured in ‘Women Artists After Empire’ consists of a small sculpture made of gum, twisted into the shape of a vulva. The work is one part of a larger series that seeks to address the role of women in society, who have traditionally been used for consumption, chewed up and spit out.Provenance
