Rose ENGLISH British, b. 1950
Louis O’Murphy was only 14 years old at the time of the painting and she was presented by Boucher, naked, legs splayed open, as an object to be desired and to be used. English removes the luxurious bedding and interior setting of the original painting, and explicitly focuses on O’Murphy, floating on rococo wavy lines, freeing her from the setting and thus the instance of her objectification.
