Franca Maranó

Galleria Gracis

Galleria Gracis, in collaboration with the Richard Saltoun Gallery is pleased to present the solo exhibition of Franca Maranò (Bari, 1920–2015), a key figure in the artistic scene of Southern Italy in the post-war period and a pioneer of feminist avant-garde.

The exhibition features approximately 30 works that trace the artistic journey of the artist from Bari. From her early career combining organic and non-figurative formal motifs, Maranò evolved in the 1970s to working with raw cotton and linen canvases. Her body of work is unique and includes painting, fabric, and ceramics. Indeed, Maranò was among the few female artists to delve into ceramics in an era dominated by "great" male artists such as Fausto Melotti, Lucio Fontana, Michele Fabbricatore, and Fausto Salvi.

The exhibition runs 6 February - 28 March.

Opening: 6 February from 6 pm.
