Andre CADERE
Romanian-born, Cadere lived and worked in Paris, with periods in London and New York. The portability and autonomy of the barres freed him from the conventional gallery environment; the encounters and situations generated by his presence–at exhibitions, openings, and museums—became the artwork itself.
This significant work was the sole object in Cadere’s exhibition '26.02.1975–26.02.1976' at the ICC in Antwerp, Belgium. The title, marking its year-long duration, underscores the conceptual framework of the project. Installed on the exterior of the museum, the work was conceived as a provocation, challenging established ideas of what an exhibition might be.
Cadere’s legacy has since been affirmed through solo exhibitions at Modern Art Oxford, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, and P.S.1 Museum in New York, securing his position within the canon of conceptual art.
