One of only four live-size croechted pieces by Richardson, ‘Underwear Skin Sale’ (1978) was made around the time of Feminist demonstrations against the Miss World Contest. It criticizes the sexual objectification of the body, and more specifically, how we are judged for the bodies we have. With the work, Richardson reversed the idea of the body vis-a-vis skin, where a ‘skin’ could be worn on the outside of our bodies instead of clothes. It is accompanied by a hanging price tag, epitomising discourses of resistance against sexual objectification and commodification.
