Young Obelisk is less humorous and more tender than Reclining Obelisk, but it shares the same irreverent approach to the obelisk as a sculptural form. Slender and punctured towards the tip, the bronze obelisk threatens to topple over, but for its heavier horizontal base, which is two-thirds of the length of the obelisk itself. This kind of base appears in several of Law’s obelisks, supporting them while emphasizing their precariousness.
