"Thumbprint is a poignant reflection on the alarming rates of female illiteracy in Bihar, India. During my collaboration with the ‘Mahila Jagriti Samiti’, I witnessed first-hand the devastating number families that deny women access to education. The widespread use of thumbprints instead of signatures on attendance sheets served as a stark reminder of the systemic barriers to female empowerment.
This work is a testament to the struggles of women in Bihar, who are denied the fundamental right to education and self-expression. Through this piece, I envision a future where girls and women are afforded a platform to develop, express their individuality, and garner respect. Ultimately, Thumbprint seeks to reclaim a space for women within the Indian sociocultural landscape”.
