Silvered hands with scales. Hands were a recurring motif for Powell. This particular gesture with the hyper flexed wrist probably derives from Powell’s observations of Tibetan Buddhist sculpture and suggests the bodily grace that accompanies enlightenment. A glass “arm” with rippled swirls blooms from the wrist. There is a lead cuff at the join of wrist and arm. Miniature “found” lead models of swans and vegetation are arranged along the upturned wrist. A set of balancing scales are suspended from the fingers.
