FOROF X Florence Peake
5 October 2022, 19:00–21:00
FOROF, Foro Traiano 1, Rome
FOROF and Richard Saltoun Gallery present Interior Pull, a special episode with British performer, choreographer and visual artist Florence Peake. Peake’s work is rooted in the moving body, physicality and materiality. Her radical, outlandish and wildly irreverent performances often incorporate drawing, painting and sculptural materials, and engage with queer strategies, care and climate change.
Interior Pull is a collaborative performance conceived by Peake exclusively for FOROF and in dialogue with the archaeological site of Rome's Basilica Ulpia, located within the event space. Through an encasement process, Peake will wrap a body in clay and then extract it, forging a "sculptural shell” in the process. The resulting sculpture will be exhibited in space until 8 October alongside other works by the artist, before being taken to Laboratorio Ceramiche Piramide to be kiln-fired. The sensory emotions of the artist, experienced during the process, will instead become vocal scores, which will be amplified in the room from within the clay sculpture.
The characteristic "of the extraction process" of the performance leads back to the archaeological finds that, after long years of waiting, are brought to light, with a reference also to the mining industries that are depleting the earth's resources after having exploited them, and where the human body becomes a metaphor of extracted resources.
To follow, guests will enjoy refreshments offered by Rimessa Roscioli.
