In celebration of Women Artists’ Art Week, Richard Saltoun Gallery is pleased to present a special in-conversation with artist Chila Kumari Singh Burman MBE and artist and writer Nicole Polonsky. Together they will explore Chila Kumari Burman’s vibrant printmaking practice within her wider body of work, touching on themes of feminism, protest, identity, and the power of female friendships, while reflecting on the stories and influences that shape her practice.

Chila Kumari Singh Burman is a pioneering British artist whose radical feminist practice explores gender, cultural identity and representation through printmaking, painting, installation, film, and neon. A key figure in the British Feminist Art movement, Burman studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, developing a distinctive visual language rooted in her Punjabi heritage, working-class upbringing and personal mythology. In 2022, she was awarded an MBE and an Honorary Doctorate from the Slade.

Nicole Polonsky is a multidisciplinary artist who also curates exhibitions and writes about art for publication. She has an MA Print from the Royal College of Art and continues to exhibit in solo and group shows. Her work is held in public and private collections in the UK and overseas; it has been featured in art and design journals, as well as Thames & Hudson’s The Word is Art. Nicole contributed an essay to Chila Burman, a monograph of the artist from Tate Publishing.
