The volume brings together Brigitte March Niedermair’s refined photographic research, developed through an intimate and spiritual dialogue with the world of Giorgio Morandi and the concept of the “horizon.” Through images of extraordinary painterly quality, the project unfolds across two distinct bodies of work, united by a reflection on the boundary between what is visible and what remains beyond the gaze.
The first, Transition Giorgio Morandi, was created inside the artist’s historic studio on Via Fondazza in Bologna. Here, the photographer engages with the objects featured in Morandi’s celebrated still lifes, deliberately rendering them out of focus in order to shift attention towards the horizon line. This approach becomes a means of evoking, rather than depicting, the artist’s complex emotional and contemplative world.
The second body of work, Are You Still There, takes us instead to the Pyramids of Egypt, interpreted as a suspended and mysterious place, a spiritual threshold between earth and sky, presence and absence, the visible and the invisible. Two seemingly distant journeys converge in the search for an essential and metaphysical dimension, entrusted to the evocative power of the image.
