Valie Export b. 1942

Viennese performance artist and filmmaker, her name was an invention in 1967, to be written in full caps at all times: VALIE EXPORT. 

 

EXPORT's famous actions from the 1960s, works such as Genital Panic (performed in an cinema in Munich, in which she wore crotchless trousers, thereby exposing her genitalia), are simultaneously aggressive and sexual.

 

Her work is included in international private and public collections including that of  the Centre Pompidou, Paris, Tate Modern, London, Reina Sophia, Madrid, MoMA, New York, and MoCA, Los Angeles.
