Antonio CALDERARA 1903-1978

Italian artist Antonio Calderara's subtle, minimal works on canvas and paper demonstrate his time as a student of engineering in Milan during the 1920s. He made a decisive shift in 1958 towards abstraction: the balance between simple, geometric forms and colour create the harmonious works for which he is known.

Calderara participated in the 1948 and 1956 Venice Biennales as well as documenta 4, Kassel, (1968). Solo exhibitions include Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf, Germany; Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf, Germany (1981); Kunsthaus Zug, Switzerland (1993); and Museo Morandi, Bologna, Italy (2004).
