In Little Dog for Roger (1967) the artist works on found fragments of a home video – a family moment shot by his father in 1952.

"In Little Dog for Roger, the image is a consequence of the process of its making. It is a residual trace of process attempting to prioritize experience over language" (Malcolm Le Grice, 2005. "I Am A Cinematographer", Frieze Magazine).

The artist works on the film stock as a medium: scratches, dirt, holes, blank screen, gaps in the soundtrack and other faults are exposed and emphasised in the film, whilst the little dog runs on the screen and fades out. The artist’s childhood film is saturated with the process of post-production, which in turn transforms the memory into celluloid and abstraction.

This exhibition creates a new installation that reinvestigates the 1967 film as the original 9.5mm home movie.
