Victor BURGIN b. 1941

Victor BURGIN's exhibition at Richard Saltoun Gallery features his series 'Voyage to Italy', marking the first time this significant work has been exhibited in the UK in its entirety. Inspired by the photograph 'Basilica', created in 1864 by the Neapolitan photographer Carlo Fratacci, the exhibition features a suite of three works: a single-screen video with voice-over and two photo-text works.

The year 2016 is the 40th anniversary of Victor BURGIN's seminal photo-text series 'UK76'. To mark the occasion, the gallery will present the work in its entirety and the form in which Burgin's works of the 1960s and 1970s were originally shown: pasted directly to the wall and scraped off at the end of the exhibition.

Victor BURGIN's exhibition encompasses a selection of his paper-based works from the late 1960s until today, focusing on his radical intervention into mainstream media through the interplay of text and image.
