Franca Maranò

EDDart, Palazzo Taverna

Franca Maranò's solo exhibition entitled Elogio del Margine (Praising the Margin) is on view at the Palazzo Taverna in Rome with EDDart.

Curated by Paola Ugolini, this is the first retrospective of Franca Maranò (Bari, 1920-2015) in Rome after her death. An eclectic and whimsical figure, she was one of the pioneers of using textiles in contemporary art in the 1970s. In 1970, together with five other artists, she founded Centrosei, the first avant-garde gallery in Bari.

The title of the exhibition aims to highlight the context of marginality in which Franca Maranò's artistic research developed: "...in southern Italy, which is traditionally steeped in patriarchal culture and in which the female voice has found it more difficult to be heard." (Paola Ugolini )

The exhibition will be open 4 May - 30 June 2023.
