ARCO MADRID: Olga de Amaral & Aurelia Muñoz

23 - 27 February 2022
Booths 7A03 - 7A05
Tactile and unexpected, Richard Saltoun Gallery's booth at ARCOMadrid celebrates the work of two artists working with textiles, Olga de AMARAL (b. 1932) and Aurelia MUÑOZ (1926–2011).

Colombian artist Olga de AMARAL is an important figure in the development of post-war Latin American abstraction. Amaral's technique, which incorporates fiber, paint, gesso and precious metals, transforms the two-dimensional textile structure into sculptural presences that seamlessly blend art, craft, and design.

A pioneer of the new tapestry art, the research of Catalan artist Aurelia MUÑOZ was heavily concentrated on knots, ancient clothing, and the possibilities of three-dimensional work. The consequence of her craftsmanship led her weaving practices to become a form of cultural expression.
