Helen BENIGSON b. 1987

Working across video, performance and installation, the practice of Helen BENIGSON is concerned with how images of feminine bodies are perceived within liminal and online spaces. Combining text and medical images of female breasts and breast-pumping, the video-collage Pump (2018) explores the blurring lines between maternal and sexualised bodies. Similarly, Benigson’s over-saturated video Second Trimester (2018), a close-up of a pregnant stomach moving in tune with a foetal heartbeat, is juxtaposed with an advertising image of almond milk and words of medical, social and sexual resonance.

Benigson has exhibited her work in numerous venues including the Zabludowicz Collection, London (2015); the Hayward Gallery, London (2014); Tate Modern, London (2013); and the Irma Stern Museum, Cape Town (2010), amongst others.
